A New Journey

Unbeknownst to most people, I resigned from my Account Technology Strategist (ATS) position at Microsoft Trinidad and Tobago in October. The job, just like everything in life, had its ups and downs. I was not able to focus on some of the technology that I wanted to but, at the same time, I was able to learn a lot from being on the other side of the wall and seeing the world from a different point of view. I was able to get a refresher on technologies that I stopped focusing on, such as System Center, and also learn first-hand about new products and programs. Another great benefit of the positon was the friends that I made in the local Microsoft office and in the IT community.

New Opportunity
After resigning, I decided that it would be a good idea to go to PASS and MVP Summit and return home to focus on products/projects that I am passionate about like SQL Server, BI, Azure and O365. Before leaving for Seattle, I had a discussion with a company called SoftwareOne, whose current plans aligned with my goals. SoftwareOne is a global company whose software licensing experts help clients get the most out of their IT investments. They realized that software is only part of the solution so they also provide professional and managed IT services necessary to enhance the customers' business through their Technology Services team. I officially started working with SoftwareOne three weeks ago and while I am a general consultant in the Technology Services team, I plan to leverage my knowledge and experience to drive more projects focused around data and the Microsoft Data Platform.

What does this mean for…
the community
Expect more blog posts and sessions on SQL Server, BI, Azure and O365. Also more sessions focused on how to perform a task as well as lessons from the field which explain things I learnt while consulting.

…the West Indies IT community
There is a local company that provides services for SQL Server, Azure (SQL VMs and SQL Database), Microsoft BI and any other Microsoft Data Platform product/solution. If you have a project, need assistance or have general questions about the services that we provide, please email me at nigel.sammy@softwareone.com
